We the Jurors for our Lord the King upon their oath present that Frederick Streeter late of the Parish of Ore in the County of Sussex labourer and Henry Hunt late of the same Parish Labourer on the Eighteenth day of April in the ninth year of the reign of our Sovereign Lord George the Fourth by the Grace of God of the United Kingdom of Great Britain and Ireland King Defender of the Faith with force and arms at the parish aforesaid in the county aforesaid twenty pieces of oak wood with the value of Two shillings and six pence and one birch pole of the value of Three pence of the goods and Chattels of James Eldridge then and there being found feloniously did steal take and carry away against the Peace of our said Lord the King his Crown and Dignity.
Pleas of both Guilty. Sentence each one fortnight solitary confinement.

of the Parish of Ore in the County of Sussex Labourer Maketh oath and saieth that on Saturday Evening last le 19th day of this Instant April he discovered that a quantity of oak wood commonly called Listing of the value of two shillings and six pence and one birch pole of the value of three pence the property of this Depondent and which was lying on the premises of Tutt at the parish of Ore aforesaid and which this Depondent was about to use for the purpose of building a Hog pound had been feloniously stolen and carried away therefrom And this Depondent further saith that the wood now in the possession of one Francis Henbrey of the Town and Port of Hastings in the said County Brewer is the same which was stolen from the premises of the said : Tutt and is the property of this DepondentX

of the Town and Port of Hastings in the said County Baker Maketh oath and saieth that having lost several faggots and some other wood from his Faggot Stack situate near his bakehouse in the Parish of Ore in the said County he kept watch two or three nights for the purpose of detecting the persons who had stolen the same and on the Evening of Friday the 18th day of this instant April about ten o’clock he was looking out and saw the persons now in custody Frederick Streeter of the Parish of St Clement in the town and Port of Hastings Baker and Henry Hunt of the same Parish Baker going along the Road towards the Garden of one Tutt at the Parish of Ore aforesaid and suspecting they were going towards the Faggot Stack of this Depondent he followed them a short distance and soon afterwards he saw them return in a direction from the said Garden and near thereto each carrying a bundle of wood on his back and with which they made off towards the Bakehouse of one John Streeter of the Parish of St Clement Aforesaid Baker and this Depondent called Mr Francis Henbrey Brewer to his assistance and they immediately followed the said Frederick Streeter and Henry Hunt and upon coming up with them they both threw away the wood which they were carrying and ran away.Richard French

of the Town and Port of Hastings Brewer Maketh oath and Saith that on Friday Evening last the 18th instant he was called by the aforenamed Richard French and they both joined in the pursuit of two persons whom he was informed had stolen some wood and that they followed the said two persons some little distance, and on coming up with them this Depondent called out to the said Richard French "There they come stop-em -" and one of the said persons named Frederick Streeter immediately threw down the bundle of wood which he was carrying and ran away and the other person also made his escape. And this Depondent further saith that he picked up the said Bundles of wood which the said two persons were carrying and that he hath this morning shown them to the said James Eldridge who identified them as being his property.Francis Henbry
The above named Depondents James Eldridge, Richard French and Francis Henbry were severally sworn before me at Hastings aforesaid this 21st day of April 1828.
